Breaking News ! An interactive map shows which areas in North Yorkshire and York have been the most affected by Covid-19. The colour-coded tool uses the seven–day rolling rate of new cases recorded up until October 21 which are expressed per 100,000 people. Areas marked in different shades of green generally mean a low infection rate while areas in dark blue and purple have recorded a higher number. York is currently in Tier 2 of the government's coronavirus restrictions, banning households from ming indoors, while the rest of North Yorkshire is in Tier 1, which follows the national rules of the 10pm pub curfew and the rule of six. The areas with the very worse rates of infection and highest numbers of new cases in the seven day period are all in York. York has the highest rate of infection compared to the other areas in North Yorkshire at 302.6, compared to Scarborough's infection rate at 121.4 and Ryedale's at 84.9 cases per 100,000 people. All three areas with a current rate of more than 400,000 cases per 100,000 are in York, with the highest being in Fulford, Heslington & University where the infection rate is 1,209.6 after 116 new cases were recorded. There were three other areas outside of York with infection rates higher than 300. As the autumn holidays begin for schools in North Yorkshire, public health officials are asking people to make sure they remember to stick to Covid-19 safety rules in order to contain the spread of the virus. North Yorkshire’s director of public health, Dr Lincoln Sargeant, said: “It’s important that people look after their mental health and wellbeing by taking part in social events, or marking occasions such as Hallowe’en.
