Breaking News ! It's Whitby Abbey, but not as we know it. One of the most recognisable attractions in Northern England is being transformed into a set for this year's Radio 1 Big Weekend. Workers donning hi-viz jackets have been pictured wheeling in kit to set up the stage at the ancient ruin which looms over the North Yorkshire seaside town on the east cliff at the summit of the 199 steps. Five of the new sets will be filmed on location in front of iconic backdrops around the UK.

In the build-up to the event, Radio 1 will be running an extensive outreach programme designed to give young people an introduction to working in the creative industries.
