MetiNews.Com - Barry Sheerman says he is not optimistic Kirklees can avoid it
Breaking News ! Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman said today (Sun) he is not "optimistic" Kirklees can avoid heading into the dreaded Tier Three of coronavirus restrictions ahead of a crunch meeting tomorrow (Mon) with Kirklees Council leaders. Nearly a week ago Kirklees avoided the strictest conditions of a third tier but Mr Sheerman said it was a close-run thing and he would be interested to hear the views of fellow MPs, as well as Kirklees chief executive Jacqui Gedman and council leader Cllr Shabir Pandor during the 5pm meeting tomorrow. Mr Sheerman said: "The number of infections and hospital admissions are being closely monitored and the latest statistics are on the rise. "I hope against hope that we are not going to go into the third tier but I'm not that optimistic. "And I still think it's inevitable that we have a circuit breaker over the half-term.

Local politicians would decide if gyms, betting shops, casinos, hairdressers and beauty salons should close though non-essential shops, schools and universities would remain open.
