Breaking News ! Dozens of schools across South Yorkshire have reported positive coronavirus cases with students and staff within just weeks of re-opening the doors. Over 20 schools in the county have reported cases of the virus, resulting in dozens of children being told to self-isolate or whole year groups being told to stay at home. It comes as coronavirus cases are beginning to creep up across England and Sheffield added onto the government's "areas of concern" list due to a rising infection rate. A total of 28 schools in South Yorkshire have so far reported a case. The majority of those are in Sheffield with 14 schools declaring cases. Six schools in Barnsley and Doncaster have had outbreaks and then two in Rotherham. It comes as Doncaster's Mayor Ros Jones warned yesterday that the threat of a local or nation lockdown is "real" and urged residents to follow the rules. Tapton School, Sheffield The school wrote to parents on September 14 to tell them that someone at the school had tested positive for the virus. A small handful of children that had been in contact with them were asked to self-isolate at home until next week. Outwood Academy City, Sheffield The school has confirmed that a Year 11 student has tested positive for the virus (Image: Google) The Academy made an announcement to parents on September 13 after it was informed that a Year 11 student had tested positive. Staff and students who had been in direct contact with the pupil were then asked to self-isolate for 14 days. But the school remains open for all other pupils and staff. St Helens Academy, Monk Bretton, Barnsley On September 9 , St Helen's Primary Academy confirmed that a teacher had tested positive for the virus. All students in that teacher's class were told to self-isolate for two weeks and invited to return to school on September 21. Affected students will still be taught via a virtual learning system. Athersley South Primary School, Barnsley The school confirmed that a positive case of the virus had been identified at the school on September 6. Students in classes eight and nine only were advised to stay home for two weeks and have been told they can return to school on September 17. Wellgate Primary School, Barnsley Wellgate Primary School confirmed they had one confirmed case of the virus within the school on September 8. Children in year two were identified as having been in close contact with the affected person and were told told to remain home until September 18. The school has said it will reopen to children in year two on September 21. Barugh Green Primary School, Barnsley Barugh Green Primary School (Image: Google maps) On September 7 the primary school closed two of its class bubbles after a child in each was confirmed to have the virus. The school did not update on its website an expected reopening date for the two classes. Barnsley College On September 10 , two departments at Barnsley College were closed entirely after three members of staff tested positive for coronavirus. The Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Centre, and the Automotive Technologies campuses were closed and learning was moved online. The college issued an update on Friday informing staff and students that the campuses would remain closed until at least September 16. Birkdale School, Sheffield On September 6 , Birkdale School confirmed that sixth form students would be staying at home for two weeks following one of them testing positive for the virus. The school's head teacher said that sixth formers were in a bubble and, as such, only came into contact with one another. Other year groups in the school are able to attend school as normal. Chaucer School, Sheffield Chaucer School confirmed that there had been a positive case of the virus at their school on September 7. The school said that a small number of children that were in prolonged contact with the person who tested positive and have been asked to stay home for two weeks. The school has otherwise remained open. McAuley Catholic High School, Doncaster The school has confirmed that one of its students has tested positive for the virus (Image: Google) The school announced on September 14 that a Year 11 student had tested positive for Covid-19. That student was also in school that day. Everyone who had been in sustained close contact with the child was asked to self-isolate for 14 days. Maple Medical Pupil Referral Unit, Balby, Doncaster In an update on its website the school said it had reported a number of positive coronavirus cases so would be closing for a deep clean. It did not state when it would be re-opening again. Owston Park Primary, Skellow, Doncaster Parents at Owston Park Primary were told by the school that there had been a single positive case in the red class. All pupils in that class were told to self-isolate at home for two weeks. Canon Popham Primary School, Edenthorpe, Doncaster The headteacher of the school wrote to parents on September 11 to tell of a positive case in the school community. It is believed that the case was not at the school but instead an external contact.

. The Year 5 bubble who had been in contact with the positive case were told to self-isolate at home for 14 days. However, all other year groups were told to attend as normal. King Ecgbert School, Dore, Sheffield The secondary school has reported that a Year 8 pupil and a sixth form student have both tested positive for the virus. The children in two social bubbles are now isolating. Hillsborough Primary School, Sheffield Year 5 pupils and some members of staff have been told to self-isolate due to a positive case of coronavirus at the school. This has affected the Year 5 bubble. That bubble, including students and some staff, will self-isolate at home for two weeks before coming back into school. King Edward VII School, Sheffield The secondary school notified parents on September 14 that a student in Year 12 had tested positive for coronavirus. Students in three Year 12 classes were told to stay at home and to self-isolate for two weeks until September 24. Bramley Sunnyside Junior School Rotherham A number of students were told to self-isolate at the school after a dinner lady tested positive for the virus. It is not clear how many students were told to self-isolate. Meersbrook Bank Primary School, Sheffield Year six pupils have been told to isolate for two weeks at the school after a positive coronavirus case. It is not clear when the case was first confirmed. Sheffield Springs Academy Some staff are self-isolating at home after the school confirmed a positive coronavirus case on September 7. The school believe it is an isolated case and was not caught in the school. Hall Cross Academy, Doncaster Hall Cross Academy in Doncaster The school announced on September 15 that it had sent students home after two Year 11 students tested positive for the virus. The Year 11 year group have been sent home to self-isolate for two weeks. Other year groups were also sent home early yesterday so that a full deep clean of the school could be completed. St Michael and All Angels Primary School, Barnsley The school have confirmed that one school bubble has been closed as of September 8. This is due to a positive coronavirus result. Those who have been told to isolate for 14 days will be back in school on September 21. Watercliffe Meadow Community Primary School, Sheffield The primary school confirmed a positive test in the Year 6 bubble at the school. This means that pupils and staff were both asked to self isolate for 14 days at home. All will be back in school on September 21. Parkwood E-Act Academy, Sheffield The school has confirmed that a Year 11 student tested positive for Covid-19. They are self-isolating at home. Birley Secondary Academy, Sheffield On September 10 the school was told that there had been a positive case of the virus at the school. A small number of children were told to self-isolate. Wath Academy, Rotherham The school wrote to parents on September 15 to confirm that a Year 13 student and a member of staff have tested positive for coronavirus. The student has already been isolating since September 7 and the teacher will self-isolate. All the relevant students have been contacted.
