Breaking News ! The mother of a young boy who was seriously injured after being hit by a van says the crash has been 'life-changing' for her family. Lerone Osbourne-Wells, 10, was struck as he crossed the road on his segway scooter near to his home in Wythenshawe on Easter Sunday. He had been out playing with his friends at a quiet cul de sac when he was involved in the collision on Moorcroft Road. The youngster was taken to Manchester Children's Hospital with a serious leg injury. He has already had to undergo two operations to save his leg, and is not expected to be discharged from hospital for six months. His devastated mother, Natalie Wells, says her son's injuries have been life-changing for the whole family. Lerone is due to be moved to Wythenshawe Hospital later this week where he'll undergo another operation to his leg. "He is going to need a wheelchair and crutches and it could be months before he's able to walk again. "It's life changing now. Luckily we have a spare front room and a downstairs bathroom but it's still going to be life changing for us all when he does come home." Natalie and Lerone's dad have been taking it in turns to visit their son, and have both been forced to take time off work. "We don't know how long we are going to be off for," she said. Even going to the toilet for him is difficult because he is bed bound at the moment.

." Natalie said she is worried about her son missing more time off school, having just returned following the latest lockdown. His spirits were raised this week though when Marcus Rashford filmed a video for Lerone after visiting the youngster's school - Button Lane Primary. But Natalie said she's been disheartened by the number of negative comments she's received from people in response to the accident. Lerone previously pictured with his idol Marcus Rashford (Image: eyJpdiI6IlRPYnpOVmZXdjVYT3B5NGJuWmtYbVE9PSIsInZhbHVlIjoiSTdiZmFBWVdNeEo2cU1GSU9nemRBc1luWlJQRTVLUU1sbTdqODBsTVl4K1UzMTk5VFdkZlhHY2xucmxjNkpuMSIsIm1hYyI6IjBlZmViYjllMTM0ODU0NzYzNDBlMzhiZThlMzA4YzA1ZGEw) "We've had quite a lot of horrible comments about why he was out on his own," she said. "But it was Easter Monday and he was playing in a quiet area just around the corner from our house with his friends." A family friend has since launched a gofundme page to help buy purchase some gifts to help Lerone whilst he's in hospital. Lerone had been riding a seated, 'Segway-style' scooter before it was involved in a collision with a Ford Transit flatbed truck on Sunday (April 4), police said. Emergency services rushed to the scene at the junction of Baycroft Gove and Moorcroft Road and cordoned off the road. GMP have confirmed that no arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing. Police are appealing for any witnesses of the crash - which happened just before 3.10pm - to come forward. Constable Jody Oakley of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "This collision has resulted in a young boy receiving a very serious leg injury and our thoughts are with him as he recovers in hospital. "If you were in the area at the time of this incident, have dash cam or CCTV footage, or saw the vehicles prior to the collision, please get in touch."
