A young girl’s reading challenge has captured the hearts of her village, with sponsorship donations for her efforts now topping £1,000.Nine-year-old Laila-Mai Buckle was only hoping to help out the Baskets for Our Benefice appeal, which provides supplies and one-off grants to those in need around the Bacton area, where she lives.But after St Mary’s Church publicised the appeal, Laila-Mai has raised £1,010 to date after reading 12 books throughout April.
