Breaking News ! Liverpool's prolonged pursuit of Thiago Alcantara is set to be a successful one. Standard Sport understands that Thiago is on the verge of joining the Premier League champions from Bayern Munich. The 29-year-old midfielder won the treble with Bayern last season, and will boost Jurgen Klopp's hopes of defending the League title this term. With Liverpool closing in on one of their most high-profile transfers in recent years, here's everything we know so far about the deal... Transfer fee (AFP via Getty Images) Liverpool have agreed an initial £20million deal with Bayern to sign Thiago, with a further £5m in potential add-ons. The fee is a coup for Liverpool given that his Bayern contract would have run out next summer, meaning the Bavarians have decided to cash in now rather than lose the Spaniard for nothing in 2021. Contract length Thiago is set to sign a four-year deal at Anfield taking him through to summer 2024. The midfielder is 30 next April, meaning he will be 33 when Liverpool's proposed contract is set to come to an end. Squad number (Liverpool FC via Getty Images) Thiago is expected to wear the vacant No.6 shirt at Liverpool - the same number he currently occupies at Bayern. Jurgen Klopp's tactics (Getty Images) David Lynch: A space in midfield may be opened up by the departure of Gini Wijnaldum, who is attracting interest from Barcelona with just one year left on his current deal. But the Dutchman is currently expected to stay put this summer.
A change of formation hinted at during Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies could also be helpful to the Brazilian, as well as his newest colleague.
Having stuck to a 4-3-3 formation for the majority of his Anfield tenure, Klopp has begun trying out a 4-2-3-1 of late.
Thiago looks an ideal fit to play alongside another holder in that line-up, dictating the play from deep as he has done so regularly for Bayern in recent years.
That would also open up the possibility of bringing an additional attacker into the fray, with Takumi Minamino a likely candidate after an impressive pre-season.
Possible line-up (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Thiago, Henderson; Salah, Minamino, Mane; Firmino.
What have Bayern said?

Bayern made no secret of their desire for Thiago to stay, but appear to have reluctantly accepted his exit.
Bayern boss Hans-Dieter Flick said on Thursday: "Thiago is an extraordinary player and was very important for us. My coaching team and I enjoyed working with him.
"It was very emotional as we said goodbye. I can only congratulate Liverpool as they got a great player and especially a great person.
"Thiago gave the team a lot of options and made us unpredictable, he solved things in ways you don't expect.
"Now we're losing yet another great player."
