Breaking News ! A community football club which ran video coaching sessions for schools during lockdown has launched a new monthly award honouring sporting schools. Coatbridge Rovers made their inaugural presentation to pupils at Glenboig Primary, rewarding their participation in a six-week programme of exercises and fitness drills and completing the club’s workbook of quizzes, word searches and activities. They compiled popular YouTube videos teaching particular skills, demonstrated by girls’ academy coordinator Carleen Dolan, a former Celtic defender – and said: “The uptake was incredibly impressive; more schools came on board and got involved each day.” Lanarkshire Live Facebook Head over to our new Lanarkshire Live Facebook page to make sure you're up to date with the top stories in the region Glenboig Primary head teacher Catriona Calvert told how the club’s online tutorials proved perfect for pupils as they learned from home last term. She said: “During lockdown, we offered two live PE slots per week and the Coatbridge Rovers videos were ideal as we could play them to the children live on Teams and the teacher could talk them through the drills, observe and support. “They were simple enough for all children to take part in, easy to follow, and we could provide challenge using speed for the same drill – it’s great to see clubs being community-minded during these difficult times and offering sessions at no cost to the school.” Read More Related Articles Proposals submitted for new Lanarkshire primary school campus She added: “We’re proud of the links and relationship we have with Coatbridge Rovers; our children respond well to their coaches and we were delighted to be named school of the month.
. Pupils received their new award, sponsored this month by Ellis Decor and TeamFeePay, from Coatbridge Rovers founder and chairman Gary Flint and development officer Martin O’Neill; and future winners will be nominated and selected by showcasing their sporting activities on Twitter.
