Breaking News ! "The long wait for the return of the Danske Bank Premiership finally came to an end at the weekend and fans were more than impressed with the Covid-19 restrictions clubs put in place to ensure their safety. At Mourneview Park in Lurgan approximately 400 Glenavon supporters turned up hoping to see their side kick the season off with all three points against derby rivals Portadown on Saturday evening.While Matthew Tipton's newly-promoted Ports grabbed a 4-2 win, the home side's fans were just happy to be back supporting their club after some mixed messages from Stormont the previous evening.A statement from the Department for Communities to sporting bodies said that no fans would be permitted to attend fixtures - but First Minister Arlene Foster seemingly overruled that decision.Glenavon confirmed that fans could attend on Saturday morning after receiving written confirmation from the Irish Football Association and the Northern Ireland Football League, much to the relief of supporters.The hard work put in over recent weeks by club volunteers paid off as spectators abided by the Covid regulations.Before entering the Mourneview Park turnstiles, everyone had their temperature checked. Fans were then guided to their seat by one of the numerous stewards. Only season ticket holders were permitted to attend, while away supporters will not be permitted to travel to Irish League fixtures as the pandemic continues.Glenavon chief steward Raymond Flanagan arrived at the ground at 10am ahead of the 5.30pm kick-off to make sure everything was in place."The Covid officer and I were putting green stickers on the seats to indicate to people where they had to sit, which makes it very easy for anyone coming in," he explained.

."Father and son John and Craig Collen were glad to be back supporting Gary Hamilton's men."Our Saturdays have been very long with it being gone but it's great to be back," said Craig. "You have to acknowledge all the work that has been put in by all the volunteers around the place. It's a superb effort and everything has been done brilliantly."Tim and Tanya Campbell were cheering on their son Peter, who signed for the Lurgan Blues over the summer. "It's great to be back but we just weren't sure what was going to happen after last night," said Tim. "There were reports that it was happening then we were getting reports that it wasn't happening. Certainly, Glenavon have done tremendous work with how they've managed it."It's a new thing for us all and the whole situation Glenavon have put on here is first class."Ian Hall felt the club had gone "above and beyond" with its efforts. "I have been up a few times for friendly matches and I feel safer here than I do walking around Tesco or somewhere like that," he added." , "isAccessibleForFree": "False", "hasPart": { "@type": "WebPageElement", "isAccessibleForFree": "False","cssSelector": "#flip-pay"} }
