Three days later they were contacted again confirming that two further cases had been identified – one concerned parent told us: “It’s very scary.” Greenhills Primary in East Kilbride The contact came from NHS Lanarkshire’s consultant in public health medicine, Dr Femi Oshin. She told parents: “We wrote to parents on 12 September advising that a member of staff at Greenhills Primary School had tested positive for COVID-19 and again on 14 September following two further members of staff testing positive. “Our test and protect team is now carrying out contact tracing after two further members of staff tested positive. All five staff are currently self-isolating at home. “We are working closely with South Lanarkshire Council with regards to the cases and have traced close contacts. Public health advice is being given to these individuals and they have been told to self-isolate.

She took to Facebook to say: “The school remains open. “Following the findings of a review, there is evidence to suggest there is transmission between close contacts within a limited group of individuals in the school. “Those within this group are self-isolating. The risk to the wider school community remains low and the school will remain open.” However, the reassurances were not unanimously accepted by some who have raised concerns about ht espread of the virus at the school. One parent responded to Councillor Dryburgh’s post, saying: “The risk remains low? Are you having a giraffe? “What does the number need to be before you say the risk is no longer low and is actually a cause for concern?”

Suggestions have been made about positive cases at other schools in East Kilbride, but no confirmation has yet been attained. Dr Oshin told parents: “We are aware there will be concern for children, their parents/carers and staff at this time. “However, I want to reassure you that a full risk assessment has been carried out ensuring all the recommended infection prevention and control measures are in place and there is a thorough cleaning programme for the school building.”
