Breaking News ! Greg Kiltie admits now needs to be the time to break into Kilmarnock’s starting line-up. The attacker has struggled to stake a claim for a regular spot despite going into his ninth season at Rugby Park. Injuries have been his biggest setback, but following various loan stints, he wants to hit the ground running under Alex Dyer this season. Speaking to the Standard, he said: “It has been good to be here as a local lad. “Playing with such a great team has been a brilliant experience. “Obviously I haven’t played as much as I would have liked over the years, so I am now looking to rectify that. “It’s time to put my injuries behind me and move on. I have been fit for a while now so it’s about time I work my way into the team.” Kilmarnock forward Greg Kiltie (Image: SNS Group) He added: “My plan is to get into the starting XI regularly. “I just want to play as many games as I can and help the team to win. “I always give my best, so I just need to see what it brings. “But for sure I want to contribute on the pitch this season.” Incredibly, Kiltie will be eligible for a testimonial in two years at just 25 after making his debut as a 16-year-old under Kenny Shiels. Kiltie said: “It’s weird, it seems so far away, but at the same time it doesn’t feel like so long ago I made my debut.” Killie start the new campaign on the road as they travel to face Hibernian at Easter Road, with their first home clash coming against Celtic.

One day he was preparing for a game against St Mirren, the next he was told he wouldn’t be working indefinitely. The halt in games came at a frustrating time as it was approaching the business end of the season with Killie chasing a top-six finish. But now Kiltie is just happy to be back in training. He said: “I think everyone has been in the same boat. We were all just sticking to what we were allowed to do whether that be going walks or whatever. “I had to keep active, but being stuck in the house wasn’t good. “Doing nothing was weird, then we were obviously told the season was finished which hasn’t happened before. “Even coming back at the beginning, training in groups of two was weird, usually in pre-season you’re all in it together but we worked in small groups at first.”
