Breaking News ! Infection rates are falling in several parts of Cambridgeshire after a huge spike in cases over the Christmas break. The current lockdown, announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson last Monday (January 4), appears to be having its desired effect, as rates have begun to drop in four out of Cambridgeshire's six districts. The rate is based on figures for the seven days leading up to January 9, so the full effect of lockdown so far still remains to be seen. The rate is expressed as the rolling seven-day total of the number of new cases per 100,000 people. It is then compared with the total for the previous seven days, in this case, the week leading up to January 2, to determine whether there has been a rise or fall in coronavirus infections. Meanwhile, Fenland saw the biggest rise from 446.7 to 518.4. Of the 315 local areas in England, approximately half (154, or 49 per cent) have seen a rise in case rates, while the other half (159, or 50 per cent) have seen a fall and two are unchanged.
