Breaking News ! Staff at an already hard-hit charity are becoming increasingly exasperated by fly-tippers who are costing the organisation hundreds of pounds. The Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) shop on Wishaw's Main Street only opened its doors again on April 26, but staff say the rear of the property is being used as a dumping ground for food waste, nappies, sanitary products - even needles. Four times since reopening, staff have had to clear waste from their fire exit door before they can open the shop. Get the latest Lanarkshire news straight to your inbox! And it’s not just people dumping rubbish that’s the problem, according to staff others are coming along and raking through the discarded bags to see if there’s anything they can salvage from it. Shop manager Catherine Costello told Lanarkshire Live: “It’s disgusting that people are filling our bins which are then being raided by others, resulting in huge amounts of rubbish at our fire exit. "So far I’ve lost over half a day’s trade at a cost of over £300 because I’ve had to clear up other people’s mess and schedule additional rubbish collections to deal with it.

.” A number of businesses in Wishaw have made similar complaints in recent months with Maura McLauchlin, the manager of Girdwoods Bar in the town, criticising the council for refusing to uplift waste left outside the pub. The Wishaw Press reported earlier this year that the enforced closure of CHSS’s chain of 45 charity shops had resulted in a devastating loss of over £400,000 of income for the charity. The stores are vital in raising funds to help people living with chest, heart and stroke conditions, so the extra charge for disposing of others’ waste is biting hard and Catherine is pleading with those responsible to think about the impact their actions may indirectly have on others.
