Breaking News ! Plans are in motion to almost totally revamp an aging Cambridgeshire hospital, bringing it up to standard with others in the county. The services already provided at the Princess of Wales hospital in Ely will continue while the three-year redevelopment work goes on, but despite the big budget, the hospital still won't be getting an accident and emergency service. A planning application, which will be submitted in the new year, will see almost every service currently provided upgraded to new modern premises except the day surgery unit. Part of the reasoning behind the upgrade is to be able to provide more services to people locally, saving many trips into Cambridge. There will also be a larger car park built to accommodate the increased number of patients that can be seen at the hospital. You can use the widget below to see other planning applications in your area: There's also talk of "exploring opportunities" to provide further services at the site, including possibly a care home. These plans are to be based on what the community considers are priorities. Lucy Frazer MP for South East Cambridgeshire said: “Ensuring that first-class health services are available within close proximity is a critical local need.

"I look forward to continuing to engage with local organisations as they develop their plans, and will make every effort to secure the necessary funding at a national level.” While Matthew Winn, Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust, said: “NHS and social care partners who currently provide services on site are working together to ensure we are able to meet the needs of a growing and ageing population. However, people are encouraged to visit CCS NHS Trust’s website between December 1 to 14 to view a virtual exhibition and share their feedback prior to submission of the planning application.
