UK news 10 day African heatwave to bake Cambs next week with highs of 35C last minute news

Breaking News ! Temperatures are set to rocket in Cambs next week as an 'African heat flare' hits the UK. Last Friday the country experienced its third hottest day on record after temperatures reached 37.8C in London before conditions became a little more comfortable over the weekend. Here in Cambridgeshire, people recorded temperatures of around 34C as they soaked up the sun. Check out the local weather forecast in your area below. And according to BBC meteorologist Matt Taylor, Britain will be baking again soon enough - so don't pack away those paddling pools. He told BBC Breakfast viewers: "After that exceptional heat we all experienced on Friday, it has certainly turned cooler this weekend. "However, we still have some sunshine around and when that sun is out, the weather will feel quite pleasant." While the start of the week will be warm and sunny, temperatures will rocket towards the end bringing local highs of 31C on Friday and 32C on Saturday, according to Met Office forecasts. "Once we hit Friday and Saturday, we could be in the very hot category once more, especially across the eastern half of the country." The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze suggested temperatures could reach as high as 35C due to an 'African heat flare' rising up from the south, which could see a sweltering heatwave lasting up to 10 days. Met Office weather forecast for Cambs Monday - Wednesday Monday will consist of sunshine and showers, becoming cloudier as we head into Tuesday. Tuesday will remain largely dry with spells of hazy sunshine. It's forecast to be a bright start on Wednesday with cloudy skies and intermittent rain later in the day. Thursday - Friday As we head into the weekend temperatures will become gradually warmer peaking at 30C on Friday. Thursday is set to be around 25C and sunny, setting us up nicely for another scorcher of a weekend. Bright sunshine and tropical temperatures will grace us here on Friday.
