Breaking News ! The owners of a children's forest school are despairing after youths broke in and trashed the place three times in just four days. The break-ins have left the owners wracked with anxiety about the future of their business, never knowing what state they will find their beloved woodland play centre in the next day. Emma Lynch opened Hedgehog Woodland Adventures in Horwich with her partner, Oliver, in 2017. The couple run outdoor play and learning sessions at the centre in Chorley New Road, as well as birthday parties and school visits. The vandalism came as another blow to the centre which was, last week, was forced to close for the second time this year because of the local lockdown enforced in Bolton. Cigarette filters were found everywhere by the owners (Image: Emma Lynch) Emma said: "They've caused damage which will take money to fix and now we're having to look into ways to make the site more secure. "It's costing us money we don't have." She described the gutting moment her partner told her they had been broken into: "Oliver had gone to do some maintenance at the site. Then he rang me and said 'we've been broken into'. "It was devastating because there's so much going on at the moment across the world, could it get any worse? "It's just mindless vandalism. They've wrecked the place, for what reason? They have broken fences down, ripped all our bunting down. "For some reason, they went into the first aid kit and took everything out - bandages, cooling packs - they broke all the lids of the disinfectant bottles in our store cupboard, poured out all the hand sanitiser. "I found a bottle of disinfectant in our fire circle where they had tried to start a fire. We also found lots of little snap bags that look like they held drugs and there were cigarette filters everywhere. They cut down our parachute cover. "They just took things from everywhere and threw them around." MyBolton To get all the latest Bolton news, events and information, go to our MyBolton news channel. . The day after, Sunday, the couple returned to find yet more youths at the centre causing yet more damage. Then on Tuesday, the teenagers were back again and the pair were forced to chase them away from the site. Emma told the Manchester Evening News: "We have had to re-close because of the local lockdown restrictions in Bolton, we're losing thousands of pounds because we've had to cancel events and birthday parties. Now this happens - three times in four days. "We spent all of Saturday cleaning up and trying to make the site more secure after the first break-in. We put up barbed wire, fixed the gate, but we're only a small business and we've not been running that long. We don't have money to put up a six foot fence, it would cost us thousands. "On Sunday, I went back to the centre around the same time and things had been moved again. Then on Tuesday, we went to check at the same time and they were sitting on our play equipment, smoking what smelled like weed. We had to chase them away." The site's parachute cover was cut down by vandals (Image: Emma Lynch) The repeated incidents have left the couple anxious. "I wake up in the middle of the night wondering if I should go and check on the site," said Emma. "Now I'm panicking that people will think it's not a secure place for children. Or that there is something I've not noticed on the ground and cleaned up, it's so difficult to see things because it's woodland. "Because we're not taking any money right now, we really can't afford this, we have to support our family with that money." The couple reported the incidents to the police who are now carrying out enquiries into criminal damage at the site. "The people we saw were 16, 17-year-old young men. They're not children, they know exactly what they're doing," added Emma. "We hope the police will speak to them, but if they leave us alone, where will they go next and who will they bother? "All we can do is keep going back and chasing them away and fix they mess they've made. That's not good for family life or your mental health." Police say that enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 2466 of 14/09/20.
