Breaking News ! A group of masked thieves armed with a sledge hammer stormed a Spar shop in Stockport and ripped a cash machine open. The gang of three men piled into the shop on North Park Road in Bramhall armed with the weapon. The shop was open to customers at the time of the incident. The thieves then attached a chain to a cash machine inside the store, police said. The thieves used a chain attached to a car to prise the cash machine open (Image: MEN Media) The other end of the chain was attached a silver Vauxhall Astra parked outside the shop. A fourth male then used the force of the car to prise open the ATM. The thieves were able to steal from cash inside before fleeing the scene in the Astra. Staff at the store were left 'shaken' after the incident but thankfully were not hurt. They then ran across Rocket Park before getting into a second vehicle - a blue Audi - on Parkside Walk. Police said the four men were all dressed in dark clothing and wearing balaclava type masks.

Enquiries remain ongoing and no arrests have been made. Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident - which happened at around 8.15pm on Thursday, February 18 - to get in touch. They particularly want to speak to anyone with dash-cam footage of the cars used by the men. Detective Constable Ed Palmer of GMP’s Stockport district, said: “Thankfully no one was injured during the robbery but staff were left understandably shaken by the ordeal.
“These four offenders are believed to have used two vehicles during the robbery so we are confident there are people out there with information and we urge you to get in touch with police. “We’re particularly keen to speak to anyone with information or dash-cam footage of the offenders or the vehicles used. "Did you witness anything suspicious around the time? Were you in Rocket Park that evening?
