Breaking News ! The government has released the latest rolling seven-day rate of new coronavirus cases for every local authority area in England. Bolton  - which is currently under stricter measures than its neighbouring boroughs - still has the highest rate of infection in the country. The town has reached the grim milestone of more than 200 cases per 100,000 people after 587 new cases were recorded in the seven days to September 13. This is the equivalent of 204.1 per 100,000 people - up from 152 in the seven days to September 6. Salford has also seen a noticeable rise - up from 75.3 to 89.6 - with 232 new cases. This is still below Oldham, which is now on 114.7. Tameside has a rate of 105.1. Elsewhere, Oadby and Wigston, in Leicestershire, now has the second highest rate in England, up from 52.6 to 136.8, with 78 new cases. Hyndburn, in Lancashire, is in third place. The rate there has risen from 64.2 to 132.0, with 107 new cases. Newcastle upon Tyne has also seen a jump from 51.2 to 64.1, with 194 new cases. The north east region is set to be put under local lockdown-style restrcitions tomorrow (Friday). The figures, for the seven days to September 13, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the government's testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two). Data for the most recent three days (September 14-16) has been excluded as it is incomplete and likely to be revised.
