Breaking News ! Officials in Cyprus have today changed their travel restrictions to allow tourists from the UK to enter the country. On August 1, the UK moved into the island’s ‘Category B’ stage, which allows travellers into the country so long as they abide by a set of rules. They previously hoped to welcome back Brits on July 15, however this date was pushed back due to the severe coronavirus situation in the UK. Holidaymakers will now need to provide a negative coronavirus test result on arrival, which needs to be obtained within 72 hours before travel. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) guidance also states that travellers must complete a Cyprus Flight Pass before travelling, which can be found online. Here, you have to upload your Covid-19 test result within 24 hours of your departure. On top of this, passengers also need to take with them hard or electronic copies of the required documents. While the FCO website currently states they advise against non-essential travel to the Mediterranean island, Cyprus is on the government’s travel corridor list.

. According to World Health Organisation data, the country has kept the spread of coronavirus to a low level with 1,084 cases, and a total of 19 deaths. However in the past fortnight, there has been a considerable rise in cases. Tourism-reliant Cyprus has so far taken a huge blow in terms of its tourism-generated income because of the coronavirus pandemic with officials projecting that the country will get less than a quarter of the record 3.9 million holiday makers it received last year. On Thursday, Jet2 cancelled all flights to Cyprus due to the former strict entry requirements imposed by the Cypriot government. The tour operator confirmed that holidays to Cyprus are suspended until August 17. The previous advice from the Republic of Cyprus government stated that travellers could not enter Cyprus if they have been in the UK in the last 14 days.
