Breaking News ! Wigan Athletic caretaker manager Leam Richardson believed his side deserved their slice of luck after they claimed a last-gasp victory at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night. Defender Scott Wootton scored a dramatic 95th-minute winner to earn the Latics a vital win against Bristol Rovers in the fight for survival in Sky Bet League One. Wigan Athletic made two changes from their spirited defeat against Lincoln City, with forwards Joe Dodoo and Will Keane coming in to replace Chris Merrie and Jamie Proctor who both missed out on the trip to the Memorial Stadium through injury. The Gas made a lively start in the first couple of minutes and put the visitors under some pressure in the final third. Brandon Hanlan glanced his header narrowly wide from Alex Rodman's fierce cross before the latter headed Luke McCormick's corner into the ground to force Wigan Athletic captain Jamie Jones into making a strong save. In a Sky Bet League One encounter that was dominated by extremely windy conditions, it was difficult for both sides to find a solid rhythm and build-up phases of attacking play. Viv Solomon-Otabor had the only real chance for Latics in the first-half, but his shot was denied by an excellent last-ditch block after Callum Lang had done well to chase the ball down and create the opportunity from out of nothing. After an even start to the second-half, Lang gave Latics the lead in the 52nd minute with his fourth goal in his last five appearances. Luke Robinson put an inviting cross into the danger zone from the left flank, and Lang was able to provide a predatory finish at the far post from Will Keane's excellent flick-on. While Latics looked to push on and establish a two-goal cushion, Bristol Rovers were able to get back onto level terms through McCormick's low drive into the bottom right corner in the 69th minute. As The Gas looked the most likely to push on and clinch a late winner, defender Scott Wootton was able to hook Thelo Aasgaard's deep free-kick home in the 95th minute to help Latics record a priceless victory at the Memorial Stadium. Following their crucial late win, Wigan Athletic was able to move within just one point of safety.

. "I think on the great scheme of things, on the balance of play, did we deserve to win? I'm not sure. Leam Richardson "Did we deserve a result? Yes. But I think even after Saturday, after playing well and getting nothing, and a couple of bad decisions going against us of late, I thought that we deserved that on the balance of everything. "The wind and weather were really heavy for the lads. I thought in the first-half, we took control of the middle part of the pitch more than they did, and with the conditions in the second-half, I felt they had to defend and so did we. "It was always going to come down to a moment of brilliance, or a mistake, or a set-piece, and thankfully it landed on our door. "Confidence is everything. Winning breathes confidence and playing well breathes confidence. "When you do play well i.e on Saturday, and you come away with nothing, people start getting a bit down on themselves, and then it's up to myself to give that rallying call to give the lads the belief that they are going to play well and get a performance and win."
