Breaking News ! Boris Johnson has called for a 'heavy dose of caution' as lockdown rules are eased on Monday. Step three of the government's roadmap out of lockdown will see the return of indoor hospitality, larger social gatherings and some international leisure travel. More social contact will be allowed between family and friends, including hugs, and overnight stays will be allowed. But the Prime Minister has warned everyone to 'be cautious' and 'take responsibility' as the rules are eased against the backdrop of concerns over the Indian coronavirus variant. In a statement, he said: “Together we have reached another milestone in our roadmap out of lockdown, but we must take this next step with a heavy dose of caution. “We are keeping the spread of the variant first identified in India under close observation and taking swift action where infection rates are rising. “The current data does not indicate unsustainable pressure on the NHS and our extraordinary vaccination programme will accelerate – with second doses being bought forward to give the most vulnerable maximum protection. .” Measures are being eased tomorrow as top scientists warn of a 'perilous moment', with the Indian variant feared to be as much as 50 per cent more transmissible than the Kent strain. Health Secretary Matt Hancock warned today said the government would be prepared to implement a local lockdown in Bolton if one was needed to protect people. Mr Hancock replied “we do not rule that out” when asked about the prospect of specific areas having different restrictions compared to the rest of the country to deal with the risk posed by Covid-19 variants. He told Sky News’s Sophy Ridge On Sunday: “The approach we’re taking in Bolton and Blackburn is to absolutely pile in testing and vaccinations to try to get on top of this. “When we had an outbreak of the South African variant in south London last month we put in a huge amount, hundreds of thousands of tests in surge testing – people came forward in their droves across Southwark and Lambeth and Wandsworth, and we got that under control.” Read More Related Articles 'We're acting coolly': Ministers defend Monday's lockdown easing amid Indian variant surge Read More Related Articles Easing lockdown, changing the vaccination plan and an apology to Bolton... these are the five key points made by Boris Johnson as he addressed the nation
