Breaking News ! If ever a club needed to press the reset button, it is Sheffield Wednesday. There needs to be a major 'cultural reboot' following relegation from the Championship. Expect manager Darren Moore to overhaul the Owls squad and assemble a team in his image. Moore's preferred formation is 4-2-3-1 but he will want a side capable of playing different styles. Moore will be working under tough financial constraints. Yorkshire Live understands Moore will have to rely heavily on loans and the free agency market to rebuild his squad this summer. The club will lose out on up to £8m revenue from going down and will have to cut costs accordingly. Many of the out-of-contract players are high earners and are likely to depart following the expiry of their deals. There are just 13 senior players tied down to contracts until at least next summer: Sam Hutchinson, Julian Borner, Chey Dunkley, Andre Green, Dominic Iorfa, Massimo Luongo, Liam Palmer, Callum Paterson, Joe Wildsmith, Josh Windass, Barry Bannan, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Cameron Dawson. Wednesday have one-year extensions available on Ciaran Brennan and Alex Hunt and it is highly likely the club will take up their options on the youngsters. Academy duo Ryan Galvin and Liam Waldock could also be promoted to the first-team set-up. Both featured at senior level in the cup competitions last year. Sources say Moore would like Osaze Urhoghide to remain at Hillsborough. Urhoghide was one of the few plus points in a wretched 2020/21 campaign. . If Urhoghide, Brennan and Hunt join Galvin and Waldock in committing their futures to the club, it would take Moore's squad size up to 18. Assuming Wednesday get their transfer embargo swiftly lifted and are able to trade in a few weeks time, it is believed they will be in the market for a new goalkeeper. First-choice shot-stopper Keiren Westwood, 36, is due to become a free agent on July 1. Bringing in a left-back is near the top of the recruitment team's priority list. It is a position where the Owls have been short on genuine cover and experience since Morgan Fox's departure last summer. It remains to be seen whether left-sided player Matt Penney will be retained. Left-sided player Matt Penney (Image: Getty Images) Moore also hopes to add an attacking midfielder to their ranks. Someone who can provide them with extra flair and imagination in the final third. An energetic No 10 that could find pockets of space in between the lines and cause havoc. With Kadeem Harris and Adam Reach likely to move on, Wednesday will need more options out wide to compete with Green for a starting berth. And attacking reinforcements are an absolute must to address their goal-scoring inadequacies. Moore is targeting a minimum of two new additions in this department to bolster their forward line. As well as Windass and Paterson have done, they need more pace and physicality up front.
