Sheffield news Sheffield's 'haunted' Starbucks steeped in history divides opinion MetiNews.Com
MetiNews.Com - The historic Carbrook Hall with links to the Civil War has risen from the ashes to become a drive-thru Starbucks café
Breaking News ! Did you know that Sheffield has the only 'haunted' Starbucks in the country? Well apparently it's true - and it has certainly divided opinion. The historic Carbrook Hall was converted into a Starbucks late in 2019 after it closed in 2018, when it was sold by Punch Taverns to West Street Leisure (WSL). At the time, it's future was in doubt after an arson attack on the site in May 2019,when the building was registered by Sheffield Council as an asset of community value. The Grade II listed building in Attercliffe dates back to as far as 1176, when it was owned by leading Parliamentarian Thomas Bright during the Civil War, who used it as a meeting place during the siege of Sheffield Castle. It was then rebuilt in 1462, and was bought by Thomas Bright, the Lord manor of Ecclesall, in the late 16th century. It has also been described as one of Yorkshire’s most haunted buildings with reports of mischievous spirits throwing bottles around and ghostly apparitions in the toilet mirrors. Some residents were sad to see the old pub go, while others believed it is better for something to go into the building, rather than letting it rot. With the café and drive-thru now opening, the debate has now reignited.

While Jennifer McHugh said: "It's a shame that it couldn't be put to better use, but it's better than it being demolished. "I think the family would rather it be still here."
