Breaking News ! A second care home in Scarborough is set to close over the worrying standard of care provided - just days after another care home run by the same providers was shut. Elsinor Residential Home, on Esplinade Gardens, will close this week after being ordered to by the county council, who had raised concerns over their levels of care and is now tasked with rehousing the residents. The decision was made last Wednesday (June 24) Elsinor is run by Ramond Limited, which is the same company that ran Grosvenor House, also in Scarborough, which was closed on June 18 over concerns about the quality of care offered. At the time Grosvenor closed, North Yorkshire County Council and the Care Quality Commission health watchdog said they were also carrying out a review of the Elsinor home. That review has resulted in the decision to close the home this week. Elsinor Residential Home was contacted for a comment but declined. Richard Webb, North Yorkshire County Council’s Director for Health and Adult Social Care, said that safeguarding people in care homes was an 'urgent priority' and that they are being 'especially vigilant' during the current pandemic. He said: “Covid-19 has not caused these problems directly. However, the daily calls and interventions we put in place with all care homes have highlighted the problems at Elsinor and Grosvenor Hall.

. “We and the CCG wrote earlier last week to Elsinor residents and their families to tell them that due to concerns about the quality of care everyone would be offered a new assessment to see whether their needs were being met and to consider moves to new homes." He said that despite the advice offered to the care home from the council and CCG the two homes had 'failed to implement the required changes'. Mr Webb said: “On Wednesday (24 June), we began contacting residents and families to tell them that we were so concerned about the care provided at Elsinor that we would be looking to move all residents to new homes within the next week. “Moving people from their current home is always a last resort and we do not do so lightly. However, this provider has failed to improve services, despite considerable help and support. We will work with residents and families to try to ensure a smooth transition for all concerned.”
