MetiNews.Com - The Blades entertain The Hammers at Bramall Lane this afternoon looking to get their first win of the season
Breaking News ! Sheffield United return from the international break this afternoon with a home game against West Ham United. Blades boss Chris Wilder will be looking for a positive reaction from his players, following the 4-1 defeat last time out away at Chelsea. There was plenty of drama in this fixture last season, with Oli McBurnie securing a 1-0 win in a match that saw the visitors have a late goal ruled out for handball courtesy of VAR. The Hammers arrive in decent form but United are in need of points after beginning the season with just one draw from their opening eight matches. So how have West Ham been performing this season and who will be the players United have to watch out for? We spoke to Football.London's West Ham correspondent Sam Inkersole to get the lowdown on Sunday's opponents. Here's what he had to say... How have West Ham been performing this season? "Very well and they have surprised a lot of people in the process. West Ham’s fixture list was astonishingly brutal, they have already played Arsenal, Wolves, Leicester, Spurs, Manchester City and Liverpool so far this season and a return of 11 points, helped by beating Fulham last time out, is an excellent return." How do they line-up and what type of football do they play? "After losing their first game of the season 2-0 to Newcastle, David Moyes made a change by switching from 4-5-1 to 5-2-3 and it has paid off handsomely with some excellent performances and results to go with it. . "It’s very counter-attacking the style that West Ham play, but it has been very effective for them this season." What's the latest injury news? "Andriy Yarmolenko will miss out having tested positive for covid-19 while on international duty but there are hopes that Angelo Ogbonna and Michail Antonio will be available for the game. "Antonio would likely be on the bench if he does make it but Ogbonna should be fine to start and that is a huge boost for the Hammers as he is their best defender and has been a consistent presence in the backline since Moyes returned to the club." Who are the dangermen that United have to watch out for? "As previously mentioned, Soucek is a huge weapon that no-one in the Premier League has really been able to figure out yet. "He was pivotal in West Ham’s survival last season and has been performing well again in 2020/21, but without the rewards. "However, he bagged the winner against Fulham, is back on the goal trail now and I can see him having a big game at Bramall Lane. "He’ll love the physical battle that the Blades will bring.

"Michail Antonio, if he comes off the bench, could be a major factor in the match but obviously that depends on if he is fit enough to take part." How will West Ham try and get at United? "United seem to have conceded a fair few goals from crosses this season and that is one area that West Ham will be looking to exploit as they have plenty of height in Haller in the middle, plus Soucek arriving late from midfield. "Aaron Cresswell has bagged three assists from a left centre half position this season from crosses into the box, set pieces have been a big weapon for the Hammers too when centre backs Ogbonna and Fabian Balbuena come up from the back.

"West Ham’s speed on the counter attack as well with the likes Bowen, Said Benrahma and others is another area the Hammers will look to take the game to the Blades." Score prediction? "I’m going for a West Ham win. I think they are a much better team than the one that visited Bramall Lane last season but I don’t think it will be a goal fest, I’m going for a 1-0 victory. "And no goals disallowed by a dodgy VAR call, this time..."
