Sheffield news Every word Chris Wilder said on his position, Billy Sharp, tactics MetiNews.Com
MetiNews.Com - The Blades boss has been reacting to his side's 1-0 defeat to West Ham at Bramall Lane
Breaking News ! Sheffield United remain deep in relegation trouble following a 1-0 defeat at home to West Ham today. The Blades are rooted to the foot of the Premier League table with just one point from their opening nine matches. Sebastien Haller's second half strike proved the difference in a tight game that could have gone either way. His unstoppable finish into the top corner punished the hosts, who could and should have been ahead by this point but wasted a number of good openings. Oli McBurnie also cracked the crossbar with 14 minutes remaining and it proved another frustrating afternoon. Chris Wilder was asked about a number of topics after the match, including his position as manager, Billy Sharp's omission from the squad and what is needed to turn things around. Here's every word he had to say on those key topics. Do you worry about your position as manager? "Is that your question or from above (Sky Sports). "I am just concentrating on getting a result. "I haven't got the sack in 20 years and 911 games. "I don’t fear anything. I am concerned about the position that we are in, of course. I love this club and love my players. "It’s great when you ask those questions. It's great how flippantly you guys talk about people’s careers. "It's not really involved me for 20 years, even though we have had some down times in that period. I have managed to get through those times. "The biggest thing now is to get a result for Sheffield United in this hugely competitive division. "To talk about my future, I don't feel arrogant that I am untouchable, but the journey that we have had that question should not be asked. But I understand why it does get asked." What's needed now? "The attitude to the game was good. The attitude of the team was good and the start to the game. "Fine margins that decide the game. They have found that bit of quality and we haven't. "A little bit of belief and confidence in individuals' play, which I accept comes with the territory and picking up the points that we have done. "A scruffy result out of somewhere. I looked at a couple of huge results last year, like Norwich beating Man City. That backs-to-the-wall result that we are after.

"We are never going to beat people three or four nil. I keep saying it. If people think we can go toe-to-toe with the top six, or put three or four past teams, they are always going to be tight games. But for us to make them tight games is a compliment to my players for where they have come from. "We had a perfect storm last year - Bramall Lane crowd, clean bill of health, big moments such as scoring against Bournemouth, scoring against Chelsea. We have done exactly the same today as we did last season. "The performance against West Ham last season to what it was today was not far off. They found a finish, we didn't. They made a mistake last season and we took it. System change? "Speaking to someone like David Moyes, an LMA-winning manager and someone who has managed Man United and managed abroad, when he comes out with 'there's nothing much wrong with your team', gives me a lot of belief that we are not a million miles off. "The team is together, they are having a go. We are just falling a little bit short. As leader of the club I am OK with today's performance. We are just lacking quality which comes with belief and confidence that comes with wins.

"There will be opinions on systems yet again. They had their system, we had ours. The game wasn't decided on systems. The game was decided on a bit of quality that they had and we couldn't find. "I don't think anyone would have been surprised if that had been a 1-0 victory for Sheffield United. Billy Sharp omission? "Rhian Brewster is the future of the football club. I usually have three forwards on the bench, but with John Egan having had concussion and John Fleck back from injury I needed to cover those positions. "Had to go with Robinson, Lundstram and Osborn to cover positions. Unfortunate for the skipper, but as I said to him he now gets judged as a skipper than at any time. It's quite easy when you are playing and everything is going fine.
"Now he has to lead as captain. He's disappointed, I get that, but we needed to have pace on the bench in Burke in case we were leading and wanted to stretch the game and Rhian is the future, so I went with two on the bench instead of three."
