MetiNews.Com - The defender has been rewarded after an excellent season in the Premier League
Breaking News ! Just hours after being named Sheffield United's Player of the Year, Chris Basham has committed his future to the club by penning a contract extension. The 32-year-old's deal was due to run out at the end of the 2020-21 season, but he has now put pen to paper on fresh terms that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2022. Basham picked up both the Players' Player of the Year and Supporters' Player of the Year accolades at last night's end-of-season awards after enjoying an excellent campaign in the top flight. He has been the most consistent performer in a season that saw United surpass all expectations by finishing in ninth place. The awards and new contract is just reward for the current longest serving player, who joined back in 2014 and is described by captain Billy Sharp as 'one of the first names on the teamsheet'.
. I'm looking forward to the future, working with the manager and helping pushing the club on further. "We're all striving for the same thing, starting with the manager and throughout the club, we all have the same ambitions and same goals. "There is a genuine togetherness within the group and obviously that makes you want to remain part of this journey, we certainly think there is much more to come. "The club has backed us since day one and that has continued throughout our rise to the Premier League, now we are here we want to improve further and that is the focus ahead of returning for pre-season later this month."
