Breaking News ! Andre Green is expected to join Sheffield Wednesday in the next 24 hours after agreeing terms on a switch to Hillsborough. Green has been without a club after being released by Aston Villa in the summer and has long been linked with a switch to the Owls. The managerless Owls look set to make the 22-year-old their first January transfer window recruit as the club look to move clear of the Championship relegation zone Late last year we spoke with Ashley Preece - Villa writer for our sister title Birmingham Live - to get the lowdown on just what Wednesday would be getting should they sign up Green. Q: What type of player is Green? A winger, in every sense of the word. His biggest asset is his pace and the ability to hug the touchline before launching assaults by drifting in from wide. He was once billed as the next best thing to come off the Bodymoor Heath conveyor belt at Villa but, a little over four years after breaking through, Dean Smith chose to release him as the boss sought top-quality. Former Villa boss Tim Sherwood raved about Green during a conversation three years ago, and said: “Andre Green is one who, if I was to go and get a job, he’d be one I’d be coming to take. "Andre has got an attitude to die for and I think he needs to continue that. He’s a man physically already and he’s got so much in the locker there. He can play centre-forward; he can play off the left. Andre Green has got a massive future." To say it hasn't happened for Green would be a huge understatement.

. He actually started the play-off semi-final second-leg and came on in the final. That summer, though, a disastrous loan move to Preston followed where he became disillusioned. A short burst of form followed at Charlton in the January but, again, his career at the Valley petered out and he soon lost his place. Green's career is at a crossroads now and his next move is absolutely vital. His pace, directness and crossing ability are big traits. As far as weaknesses go, you'd say end product when in good areas as well as temperament. His confidence is shot at present and he needs a big arm around him, that's for sure. Q: Is he capable of playing wing-back or would he likely move into more central positions? His defensive work will need improving vastly. At Charlton, Lee Bowyer played him up front from time to time and that could be a position he could thrive at Wednesday. A tinge of disappointment knowing it was one of our own who walked away for nothing. Back when in January 2019, Villa supporters craved for Green to be recalled and Smith did just that. The winger has always been held in high regard at Bodymoor Heath and it's a surprise to many how his career has nose-dived the way it has done. I hope he rediscovers his mojo as he's a player who can be unplayable on his day.
