Breaking News ! It is never boring at Sheffield Wednesday. There is always something to write and talk about. Late night statements have become the norm since owner Dejphon Chansiri's arrival in 2015. So it really should have come as no surprise to anyone of a blue and white persuasion that the verdict from their EFL charge came on a Friday evening. Wednesday will await the written reasons from the independent disciplinary panel before considering any appeal. After eight painful, excruciating months, the case is not over yet. Will the club look to appeal the decision to try and get their punishment reduced? Or will they take the hit and look to draw a line under the matter? As ex-Owls boss Brian Laws pointed out, it could have been a heck of a lot worse. Assuming the Owls accept their fate, 12 points is not insurmountable. They have finished in mid-table in each of the last three seasons and they would need that sort of form again to avoid the drop. Not an impossible task but certainly an uphill struggle.

There is no point dwelling on the negatives. All Monk can focus on is rebuilding his threadbare squad and building a team that the fans can be proud of. This is an opportunity for a clean slate. This is an opportunity to reconnect with the club's loyal, long-suffering fans. This is an opportunity for a fresh start. It's a time for unity and to adopt a siege mentality in the face of adversity.
