Breaking News ! Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Thursday, 17 September. Huge cost for Bale loan It looks like Gareth Bale is set to return to Tottenham on loan, seven years after he left the club to join Real Madrid. He will not be cheap, though, even if Real subsidise a huge portion of his remarkable £500,000 a week salary, which still has two years left to run. Even with that discount, the Independent report that he will cost Spurs close to £20million to take their former player on loan for the 2020/21 season. The 31-year-old only made 12 starts in La Liga last season, so Tottenham will have to hope he can get up to speed to play every week if the supposed cost for the deal is accurate. And after he was substituted at half-time against Everton and left out of Tottenham’s Europa League trip to Bulgaria, it became easy to join the dots and assume there was some substance to the reports. However, football.london understands that Alli is not expected to leave Spurs in this window. Jose Mourinho remains a fan of the player, and admitted that his substitution on Sunday was an error on his part. "When I do these kind of things I always do for the team, I never do against the player,” he said. “In some cases the option was proven right, in other cases the option is proven wrong. In this case it didn't work, the team in the second half was not better than the first.

The Spanish side’s left-back Sergio Reguilon (who spent last season on loan with Sevilla, winning the Europa League in the process) arrived at Tottenham’s training ground on Wednesday evening ahead of completing a medical, according to the Evening Standard. He is reportedly going to cost Spurs £25m, though Madrid will insist on a buy-back clause should they wish to bring him back to Spain in the future. With Matt Doherty having already signed, it appears Spurs are getting an upgrade in both full-back positions this summer.
