Breaking News ! Good morning, Tottenham fans. Here is your Spurs morning digest for Monday, October 19. Mourinho: Bale wasn't a distraction for Spurs Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho dismissed the notion that Gareth Bale’s introduction off the bench was the reason Spurs’ surrendered a three-goal lead against West Ham United. When the Wales star, who is spending this season on loan from Real Madrid, was brought on for his second Tottenham debut, Mourinho’s side were 3-0 up and cruising to victory. What followed was a disastrous late collapse. And after the game, the Portuguese coach was asked whether Bale’s introduction had proved a distraction for Tottenham’s players. “Don't think so, honestly don't think so,” Mourinho said. A decision to show that he doesn't have a beautiful chair waiting for him in the team and he sits there the first time he can. It was a message to the team that in this team everybody has to fight for positions. “He's very well accepted in the group. Everyone likes him, and I believe he also likes what he found here. So everything is positive and the focus was not on him. The focus was on the game and he was on the bench for 65 minutes or so and I don't think so, I don't think at all. “It's a pity that he couldn't score that fourth goal which was a beauty and would have killed the game. But that's football.” Souness makes top-four claim Despite dropping points against West Ham, Graeme Souness believes Tottenham will finish in the Premier League top four this season if Bale stays free from injury. “The rest of the players would’ve got a lift from him being there,” he said on Sky Sports. “The standards would’ve gone up. Everyone gets a lift, and I come back to it, the challenge for Spurs is keeping him as fit as possible and getting plenty of minutes out of him. .” Souness also praised Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, speculating about how dangerous they could be with Bale alongside them. “I don’t think you can afford to play against this Spurs team with such a high line, like Southampton did, and they never learned from it and got punished severely,” he said. “I just think when you look at what they’ve got in that front three, they could be having a miserable day and still end up on the winning side. “The team could be having a miserable day, but with those three in the game, they are fabulous, top players, who can take games without the rest of them being at their best.”

Rice trolls Spurs supporter Midway through the second half of Tottenham’s draw with West Ham, Bale was introduced from the bench while West Ham brought on Manuel Lanzini. With a three-goal lead at the time, several Spurs supporters took to social media to point out the disparity in quality between the two players. “We bring on Bale, West Ham bring on Lanzini,” one fan tweeted. Such gloating did not last long. Not only did West Ham recover from three goals down in the final ten minutes; it was Lanzini who produced the equaliser, lashing in from distance in the fourth minute of added time. And Irons midfielder Declan Rice enjoyed the comeback so much that he ridiculed said Spurs fan on Twitter, retweeting the aforementioned post alongside the caption: “this aged well.”
