Breaking News ! Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their hopes of signing Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland. According to reports in the Italian media at the end of December, Frank Lampard, the Chelsea head coach, has told the club's hierarchy that he would like to add the talented 20-year-old to his squad during this month's transfer window. Chelsea's current form has raised questions about the state of the squad, despite splashing out more than £220million on seven new additions last summer, leading to reports that the Blues may need to add a new big-name star to their ranks in an attempt to get the juices flowing once again. Due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, which is stopping supporters from attending matches and getting the turnstiles moving, clubs are not making anywhere near as much revenue as they would in usual circumstances. However, by the time the summer transfer window rolls around ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season, there is hope that the situation with the pandemic will be entirely different and supporters, certainly in some aspect, will have started to make their returns. Should that prove to be the case, clubs will be able to find more wriggle room to splash the cash on potential new signings once again. That is because Haaland will leave Dortmund, with his agent Mino Raiola looking to secure him a move away from the Bundesliga heavyweights. However, though Chelsea and Premier League rivals Manchester United are interested in securing his signature, a whole host of other clubs from around Europe are as well, including Barcelona. According to Oriol Domenech, Raiola is doing his best to "place him at Barcelona." Though the Spanish giants may be keen on Haaland, the club has struggled in a financial sense in recent months, just like a lot of other clubs in Spain, meaning they may be unable to meet Dortmund's demands. Speaking to Sport1 last month, Raiola said: “Fake news. I’ve never talked to any presidential candidate of Barcelona regarding Haaland and I won’t do.

.” Raiola made that statement off the back of news that had claimed he had spoken to Emili Rousaud about the prospect of the striker, who set a Bundesliga record over the weekend for becoming the first player to score 25 league goals in his first 25 Bundesliga matches, joining Barcelona, should Rousaud become the club's new president. As we all know in football, things can change very quickly, and Domenech's claims suggest that Raiola may have now spoken to Barcelona about the prospect of them landing Haaland. But the news that he is going to leave Dortmund is bound to put Chelsea and United on red alert, especially when he was linked with a move to the Premier League prior to joining Dortmund last year Haaland has a £68million release clause in his contract, but that does not become active until 2022, meaning any interested party would be forced to pay a much, much higher fee if they were to try and land his signature this forthcoming summer.
