Breaking News ! Aiden McGeady says the lure of Wembley is a "massive incentive" for Sunderland players ahead of Saturday night's Papa John's Trophy quarter-final draw. The draw for the next stage of the competition will take place live on the Quest highlights show on Saturday, January 23. It will be conducted during the show, which airs between 9-10:30pm. The Black Cats made it through to the last eight of the Papa John's Trophy with an impressive with over League Two side Port Vale. The only disappointment for the Wearsiders was that the scoreline was not greater. McGeady, of course, scored both Sunderland goals in the 2019 final of the competition which saw Jack Ross' side lose to Portsmouth on penalties. And speaking to SAFC, he said: "The EFL Trophy is a funny tournament because it's goof for players who haven't had much game time but there's an expectation you should be out steam rolling teams. "It as good for the players that started, those that came on and everyone involved.

McGeady has praised the younger players who are breaking through at the Stadium of Light but also said it is up to them to force their way into the starting XI. He said: "I think Jack [Diamond] would be the main one who's breaking through at the moment and he's started the last few gains. Oli Younger, Mitch Curry - you've got a lot of younger lads who are pushing and knocking on the door who at some point could come in and help us this season - play a part. "It's down to them to show the manager in training because that's the way football is. "You have to show the manager every chance you get, every minute on the pitch every minute in training that you deserve to play ahead of a first team player. "That's their job. But, there are a lot of young players who are on the fringes who could come in and definitely add to us this season."
