Breaking News ! Two venues in Sunderland have been forced to close their doors after their customers tested positive for coronavirus. Ryhope Cricket Club, on Ryhope Street, and the Golden Fleece Pub, in Silksworth, Sunderland, both announced on Saturday that they were closing temporarily due to confirmed Covid cases. The Golden Fleece said it is closing until further notice and will not reopen until all staff have been tested and the pub has been deep cleaned. In a statement on its Facebook page, the pub said: "Unfortunately, we will not be open until further notice as an irresponsible customer who was showing Covid symptoms while awaiting their test results decided to have a night out. "Today we have just got the news that they have tested positive. "Sorry for any inconvenience this causes but our customer's safety comes first. "Soon as our staff have been tested and the pub has been deep cleaned we will update you all. Ryhope Cricket Club said a case of coronavirus was reported on Friday evening (July 31) and said they must suspend all cricket activity for 72 hours.
. It said: "There was a reported coronavirus case which occurred in the clubhouse late last night.
"Whilst we are confident this has not affected the playing side, the safety of our players and parents is paramount. "Therefore, the committee has taken the decision to suspend all cricket activity for 72 hours until we are in full possession of all facts. "Your patience and cooperation in this matter are greatly appreciated and we will keep you posted on all developments." The closures come as swathes of the North West and Yorkshire have been placed into tighter local lockdowns following a steady increase in the number of new cases. On Friday Boris Johnson cancelled easing of some lockdown restrictions in response to the number of cases growing. In addition from August 8 face coverings will become mandatory in more locations.
