Breaking News ! A third venue in Sunderland has closed its doors after a reported case of coronavirus. The Cavalier in Sunderland took the "precautionary measure" to close for 72 hours after a customer who may have had coronavirus was reportedly in the premises on Friday night (July 31). It comes after Ryhope Cricket Club, on Ryhope Street, and the Golden Fleece Pub, in Silksworth, Sunderland, both announced on Saturday that they were closing temporarily due to confirmed Covid cases. The Cavalier said the bar and kitchen will be deep cleaned and will begin to contact customers who have been inside the premises. The bar said in a statement: "It is with regret that we are having to close the Cavalier Bar for the next 72 hours. "Although we have not been officially informed, we take our customer and staff's health seriously and as we have been advised that an irresponsible customer who may have been in last night, has now tested positive for Covid, we think this is the best thing for everyone. All customers who have been in will be contacted in line with the government guidelines. "We were informed this morning that someone who may have had Covid-19 could have been in the bar area last night. "We are trying to trace this person and as a precautionary measure, we have closed the bar and restaurant for 72 hours for deep cleaning of the bar area, however, our delivery service is still available starting tomorrow as usual by phone and JustEat. "Even though this person was nowhere near the kitchen or the staff as a precautionary measure we are closing for deliveries today to give the kitchen a good deep clean too. "Sorry for any inconvenience caused. Can customers who have booked today and tomorrow please contact us for information as we obviously cannot serve you in the restaurant or bar this weekend. "Please note we will be continuing our delivery only service tomorrow Regards." The Golden Fleece said it is closing until further notice and will not reopen until all staff have been tested and the pub has been deep cleaned.

. "Today we have just got the news that they have tested positive. "Sorry for any inconvenience this causes but our customer's safety comes first. "Soon as our staff have been tested and the pub has been deep cleaned we will update you all. "Someone will be getting in touch through track and trace with the people who were in last night." Ryhope Cricket Club said a case of coronavirus was reported on Friday evening (July 31) and said they must suspend all cricket activity for 72 hours. A statement from club chairman Ian Lawrence and club secretary Alan Mason said the safety of players and parents is "paramount". It said: "There was a reported coronavirus case which occurred in the clubhouse late last night. "Whilst we are confident this has not affected the playing side, the safety of our players and parents is paramount. "Therefore, the committee has taken the decision to suspend all cricket activity for 72 hours until we are in full possession of all facts. "Your patience and cooperation in this matter are greatly appreciated and we will keep you posted on all developments." The closures come as swathes of the North West and Yorkshire have been placed into tighter local lockdowns following a steady increase in the number of new cases. On Friday Boris Johnson cancelled easing of some lockdown restrictions in response to the number of cases growing. In addition from August 8 face coverings will become mandatory in more locations.
