Breaking News ! A renowned thief once barred from every supermarket in the UK showed no signs of changing his ways after he was caught stealing again - just hours after appearing in court. In January 2019, Lee Stephenson was given a 12-month exclusion order by a judge, which prohibited him from going into any national food stores in the country. But, despite undergoing major heart surgery in the meantime, the 33-year-old was caught stealing from shops again in September and October last year. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge when he was sentenced for those offences at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court in November. However, just three days later Stephenson reverted to type, this time targeting Tesco Express, Morrisons and Spar a total of five times in two days. The crook, of Jenison Avenue, in Benwell, Newcastle, appeared before the same court in custody on Tuesday, after failing to show for a previous hearing, where he pleaded guilty to five counts of shop theft and one of failing to surrender to custody. Glenda Beck, prosecuting, said Stephenson committed the offences on December 29 and 30 last year at the West Road branch of Tesco Express, in Newcastle, and Morrisons and The Spar, on Two Ball Lonnen, in Fenham. "The manager at Tesco Express says the store had been targeted by a male coming in and stealing large amounts of chocolate," Ms Beck continued. "He had been in a number of times since December 28. However, on December 29 at 16.44, the manager was at work and was informed that a male had stolen chocolate from a display.

Ms Beck added: "Police viewed CCTV and identified the defendant. The officers stopped him in the Benwell area and, at the time, he was in possession of seven packs of Lurpak butter and two packets of razor blades. As a result, he was arrested." The court heard Spar and Morrisons were contacted and it was confirmed that the blades and butter had been stolen from them. In interview, Stephenson, who has 46 theft offences to his name, confirmed he'd stolen the goods in order to sell on. Gregg Stephens, mitigating, said: "In November, Mr Stephenson became homeless again. He had been at his mum's address and there's some stability there in terms of his lifestyle but, when he's not there, he falls off the rails again. "Since November, he's not committed any further offences - that is, perhaps, encouraging." Stephenson was given a 12-month community order and must pay a total of £268 compensation.
