Breaking News ! Work is under way on a £2m rooftop bar and restaurant at one of Newcastle’s top hotels. Gainford Group, the owners of The Vermont, first revealed plans to create a stunning new venue with views across the city more than two years ago, but other plans within the group, coupled with the arrival of the pandemic, saw them hit the pause button on the scheme. Now, with all UK hospitality closed in the latest lockdown, the group is working behind the scenes to create a luxury destination venue that will be ready to open as soon as coronavirus restrictions are lifted. ABOVE rooftop bar and restaurant will create 50 jobs once it is ready, playing host to all manner of events customers call for in the post-Covid world. Imran Khaliq, director at the firm, said its construction team is carrying out a full refit at the firm’s existing rooftop area, to create the new bar and restaurant, which will operate with table service, with 360-degree views across the city. A retractable glass roof also means guests can visit the roof area no matter what the weather. He said: “It’s been a long tome coming but we have finally get started on ABOVE.

. It all depends upon restrictions but as and when the world is ready, we will be ready. “We’re making a big investment and, just like other venues we own, it will host everything from weddings to corporate events.” Read More Related Articles Celebrity nightclub Chinawhite's plans to transform historic Assembly Rooms approved Read More Related Articles Empty stalls at beloved Grainger Market 'impossible' to fill due to Covid pandemic, council warns The project marks the first phase to transform the rooftop area of The Vermont, with phase two expected to create a second, open air mixed-use area.
