A South Shields man who fought his way back to health after contemplating suicide when at his lowest ebb has launched an audio book which he hopes will help others who are struggling to do the same. Paul Mort, who is now a life coach, documented his recovery in a viral video which has been watched by almost 6m people and has now followed up with a new book which is set to strike a chord with many who have found the pandemic year took ts toll on mental health. The newly-published Paul Mort Will Save Your Life - which is described as being "aimed at working men whom traditional mental health messaging often doesn’t reach" - will, according to its writer, do exactly what it says on the tin. “This book will genuinely save lives," says Paul who has overcome his own mental health struggles which during a dark time saw him abuse both cocaine and alcohol. "I’ve stood on the edge of a cliff and been talked down from the brink of suicide," he recalled. "I was diagnosed bipolar; I was overwhelmed and I was desperate." The audio book does not hold back and there are chapters in it focusing upon Paul’s bipolar experience, his drink and drug troubles and suicidal feelings - as well as the effect of all that upon his family. The book also includes eight powerful stories detailing the hard work and recovery undertaken by some of his coaching subjects.

. The inspiring words and message of hope behind what is said to be a unique audio project could prove just what is needed to help people turn a corner at the start of a new year. Paul, who has also worked as a personal trainer in the past, said: "This audiobook is everything I’ve learnt from upgrading my life and from the thousands of people I’ve coached into transforming their own lives." He also runs a podcast, Paul Mort Talks Sh*t, whose guests have included boxer Tyson Fury; Who Dares Wins’ Ollie Ollerton and comedian Chris Ramsey, who is also from South Shields and who praised Paul for his "great work".
