Breaking News ! Jordan Willis is set to undergo an X-ray on his foot after hobbling out of Sunderland’s win at Swindon Town. The centre-back suffered the injury in a strong challenge and limped off with less than 20 minutes on the clock at the County Ground, having tried and failed to continue after treatment. And manager Phil Parkinson is hoping that the injury proves to be no more serious than a badly bruised foot. “It’s an impact injury to his foot and it swelled up very quickly,” said Parkinson, whose side won 2-0 at Swindon thanks to a goal from Charlie Wyke and a penalty from Chris Maguire. “We just hope it’s nothing more severe than a badly bruised foot, but it will probably need X-raying.” Read More Related Articles Swindon 0-2 Sunderland report - Maguire and Wyke score on their return as Black Cats ease to victory Read More Related Articles Swindon Town 0-2 Sunderland LIVE: Maguire's penalty and Wyke's strike seal victory Sunderland have already got defensive injury problems, with Arbenit Xhemajli ruled out for the remainder of the season and Morgan Feeney out for another three months. The Black Cats signed Wolves centre-back Dion Sanderson on loan yesterday, and Parkinson says that deadline day addition looks even more important in light of Willis’ injury. He said: “It was crucial. He’s a good player and he will add something to the team and to the squad.

. “Throughout the season there are going to be injuries and suspensions and the squad has to be strong enough to cope with them, and I feel we are getting there.” Sunderland went into today’s game with a patched-up defence, with centre-back Tom Flanagan missing through suspension and wingback Denver Hume absent due to injury. Flanagan will be available again for Tuesday’s home game against Crewe and Hume was back in light training on Friday, but Parkinson will look at bringing in a free agent as cover for Hume. “We’re still looking at free agents,” he said. “Dion was such a good signing for us because he is under 21 and doesn’t count towards the salary cap, so there is still that bit of scope [on wages] which is nice to have. “Denver did some running yesterday. He just hyper-extended his knee and swelled up a bit, it was knee he has had a problem with before and there was no need to risk him today because we have Goochy [Lynden Gooch] who can do a job there. “I don’t think Denver will be out for too long.”
