Breaking News ! A strict set of local restrictions and guidance will come into force on Friday, September 18 in Newcastle in the fight against coronavirus.  The new restrictions are introduced across Newcastle and six other parts of the North East and have been put in place to curb rising infection rates, and agreed in collaboration with local leaders. The rules are part of Newcastle being made an 'area of national intervention', following discussions with local leaders, the Health and Social Care Secretary, NHS Test and Trace, the Joint Biosecurity Centre (JBC), and the Chief Medical Officer for England. Hospitality for food and drink will be restricted to table service only. Late night restriction of opening hours will be introduced for the hospitality industry, with leisure and entertainment venues required to close between 10pm to 5am.

Avoid attending amateur and semi-professional sporting events as spectators. The new restrictions and guidance for Newcastle comes as cases in the North East have risen to the second highest in the country, after the North West. They are in addition to the nationwide 6-person limit on social gatherings that came into force on Monday, which is in place across the country and sits alongside additional restrictions in some local areas.
