Breaking News ! A number of cancelled train services will return to the North East as lockdown restrictions ease. TransPennine Express has reinstated a number of services, with more travel now permitted under the latest Covid-19 rules. The company, which serves Newcastle Central Station as well as a number of stations throughout the region, says it's now running 80% of its pre-coronavirus timetable, with extra carriages on each train to make social distancing possible. Among the returned services will be hourly trains between Liverpool and Newcastle, as well as limited services between Newcastle and Edinburgh. The company says it has a "rigorous cleaning programme", while all passengers will have to wear a face covering unless exempt. Kathryn O’Brien, customer experience director for TransPennine Express said: “We are thrilled to have been able to bring back a number of services and are looking forward to welcoming customers back on board. “Anyone planning to travel by train can do so with confidence, with an enhanced cleaning programme and social distancing in place to keep everyone safe, both on our trains and at stations.
