Breaking News ! Workers desperately tried to save the life of a man who was fatally injured in a collision on a Tyneside business park. The incident happened outside units at Dunston Enterprise Park, off St Omer's Road, in Dunston, Gateshead, shortly after 8am this morning. The scene in Dunston today (Image: Newcastle Chronicle) And police have now confirmed to the Chronicle that a man was died following the collision. A large area of the enterprise park was cordoned off for most of today as investigations were carried out. Cops from Northumbria Police's collision investigation unit were at the scene, along with forensics officers dressed in white overalls. And today shocked workers have told the Chronicle of the tragedy they witnessed. John Scott, who runs a business nearby arrived at the scene moments after the collision. John, from Just Signs and Lighting, said: "I just went round to get some welding rods. I must have just missed it by seconds. “There was a lass sitting next to him and at first I just thought he’d fainted. I went over and she says he had been run over. He was just a young kid, it’s horrible. “The paramedics came in a car. Another man came over and took control of it, he was giving him CPR. He was trying to do everything for him, he was with the paramedic trying to help. You don’t expect to see all that When you just go out for some welding rods." John's daughter, Amy, who works for her dad saw the aftermath of the incident when she arrived at around 9am. The 24-year-old said: "My dad said he was just walking along and he just saw a lad on the road. He asked her if she had ring an ambulance, and someone said they said it would be 18 minutes, so my dad rang them back, and they were there straight away.
. I think he was a bit shook up after. It was a bit of a shock to see all this. You don’t expect to come to work and see all that. It’s just awful.” One man from a nearby business, who asked not to be named, said: “I just heard a terrible screeching sound, like a tyre or a brake, then all of a sudden all hell broke loose, police vans, police cars and a helicopter arrived. “There was a paramedic there and an awful lot of police cars. “They are still working out there now and taking measurements. “We are right on the edge of the cordon and we can’t get out. I have been told it is a crime scene. “We had one customer come in this morning who got here just after it must have happened and he was shaking.” Another worker, who asked not to be named, said: “I just seen the police arrive. They just blocked up the street. Then the air ambulance came and landed in the park. All I have heard is that a vehicle collided with a person.”

At 2.30pm police removed the cordon and workers from Gateshead Council began cleaning work at the scene.” Then police blocked off the road again while a sniffer dog was sent in to search the area.

Police are now appealing for witnesses: "A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Shortly after 8.15am today we were called to a report of a road traffic collision at Dunston Enterprise Park, Gateshead, involving a vehicle and a man. "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police."
