Breaking News ! A man has been taken to hospital with a hand injury after emergency services were called to a street in Sunderland. Emergency services were called to Roker Avenue in Sunderland at 6.23pm on Thursday evening where a man had been injured. Witnesses at the scene claimed the road was closed off by police with some reporting seeing a man on the roof of a property. Neighbours on the street also reporting seeing armed police on the scene. The full nature of the incident is not yet known although the North East Ambulance Service confirmed they treated a person for a hand injury.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 6.32pm this evening. "We dispatched a paramedic crew and treated a patient for a hand injury before taking them to Sunderland Royal Hospital." Northumbria Police confirmed officers were at the scene.
