MetiNews.Com - The Imps boss has his team in mind and an action plan to stop Sunderland from scoring
Breaking News ! Michael Appleton believes he's pretty close to deciding who will start against Sunderland in the first-leg of the play-off semi-finals. The two sides are no strangers to one another this season, having played three times already, with Sunderland unbeaten against the Imps this campaign. Despite their record against the Black Cats, Appleton's backroom staff have done extensive research on Lee Johnson's side this time out, hoping to secure a home leg advantage before heading up to Wearside for the second-leg. Appleton told Lincolnshire Live : “I’m pretty close if I’m being honest. “We’ve played Sunderland three times already and we’ve watched a bit more of their footage over the last few weeks, getting an idea of what they’re about. “The more I watch that, the more I’m swaying towards one way, how I’m going to start. “I think I’ll know by, if not Monday, then definitely Tuesday.” Read More Related Articles Has Chris Maguire done enough to warrant more involvement for Sunderland in the play-offs? Sunderland's 14 game unbeaten run was followed by a seven game slump, while the Imps shook off their malaise and rediscovered form that would propel them back towards the automatic positions. When asked if he'd learned any more about the Black Cats since their last meeting, Appleton said: “Only little things. What we do know about them, because of the experience they’ve got in the team, is that they’ll keep coming forward.
.” “They’ve got players who have been there and done so there’s a bit of pride about them. “That’s what’s going to make them really dangerous. They’re not going to give up on this season. They know that they’ve got three games to achieve what they set out to do at the start of the season. “This is bonus for us, we’re just enjoying the experience.”

Appleton believes cutting off the supply to Charlie Wyke will give them a greater chance of securing place at Wembley under the arch. The Lincoln City boss added: “[Aiden] McGeady is obviously a big part of that, but whether it’s [Lynden] Gooch, whether it’s [Jordan] Jones, they’re more than capable of doing that. “First and foremost, you’ve got to stop the source into those wide players. A lot of source into those wide areas is [Grant] Leadbitter so that becomes key. “But once they’re in those wide areas, you’ve got to get up to them quickly and stop them getting crosses in the box.”
