Breaking News ! More Sunderland City Council venues are set to reopen this week as part of the Government's roadmap out of lockdown. Speaking at a Downing Street press conference, Boris Johnson confirmed that from Monday, May 17 people can meet inside private homes, and pubs and restaurants can allow customers indoors again. Pupils will also no longer be required to wear face masks at school and many people will be allowed to hug for the first time in months. However, the Government's medical experts say people should exercise their own judgment when hugging because it's still the most likely way of passing on coronavirus. And as lockdown eases a number of Sunderland Council venues will reopen next week. Councillor Graeme Miller, Leader of Sunderland City Council, said: "It's fantastic to see venues which our residents have really missed reopening and expanding the services they're able to offer following the latest easing of restrictions. "Covid rates are low at the moment but the virus is still in circulation so we need to make sure that we all keep doing what our residents have been doing so brilliantly since the start of the pandemic by continuing to follow the guidance in place to keep us all safe. "That means following the latest guidance, remembering hands, face, space and fresh air, getting both doses of the vaccine when you’re offered them and helping find people who might be carrying Covid without knowing it by making regular testing part of our lives. "This will become even more important as we get out and about more and begin to mix in larger numbers such as at organised events."
