MetiNews.Com - The transfer window may have recently drawn to a close but there is still plenty of options available to strengthen Premier League clubs on free transfers
Breaking News ! The transfer window is now closed, so any Premier League clubs still hoping to pry players away from other teams will now have to wait until January. There is, though, the possibility of bringing in players who are unattached and without a club a few weeks into the new season. Perhaps surprisingly, there are a few relatively big names on the list of free agents. With that in mind, here is a close look at who is currently available on a free transfer. Daniel Sturridge It wasn’t so long ago that Daniel Sturridge was firing in goals for Liverpool and regularly making it into the England setup. His prolific days are probably behind him now, but at 31 he still has plenty to offer. Sturridge was most recently at Turkish side Trabzonspor, where he scored seven goals in 16 appearances. For a middling Premier League side, he might be a good option, even if injuries remain an issue. But he remains Premier League quality, as he showed in glimpses for Watford last season. Brighton have been linked with the 29-year-old forward, who should find a club soon. Alexandre Pato Chelsea fans will remember Alexandre Pato, as will anyone with an interest in European football during the late 2000s. Back then, the Brazilian striker was labelled the next big thing, emerging as a natural goal scorer as a youngster with Milan. It didn’t quite go as planned, though Pato is still a talented player. He was most recently back in Brazil with Sao Paulo and could be a wildcard option for any Premier League teams searching for a striker. Jack Wilshere Even after the injuries and the patchy form, there will probably be plenty of suitors for Jack Wilshere following his exit from West Ham United recently. Few midfielders are as technically gifted, as silky and delicate on the ball. West Ham couldn’t see a place for him in their squad, but other clubs might consider him worth the risk.
. First at Newcastle, then Watford, he proved himself a reliable performer. The 31-year-old Dutch international is not a flashy player, but he will do a job for any side that chooses to bring him in. Kwadwo Asamoah Kwadwo Asamoah is a Serie A veteran by now. He has made 270 appearances in the division for Udinese, Juventus and Inter Milan, but he was released by the latter following the expiration of his contract this summer. Capable of playing as a left-back, left-winger or midfielder, Asamoah’s versatility and experience could be valuable for a number of Premier League teams. Fabio Borini Fabio Borini seems to have been around for a very long time, yet he is still only 29, and might have benefitted from a few more years away from the Premier League. The Italian striker struggled with the division before moving to Milan in 2017, scoring only sporadically for Chelsea, Liverpool and then Sunderland. Borini was released by Hellas Verona this year and hasn’t found a new club.
Croatia's Mario Mandzukic
Mario Mandzukic Croatian Mario Mandzukic is not getting any younger, but he is a big name, the kind of player who stands out in a list of unattached players. It was only three years ago that he scored a stunning overhead kick for Juventus in the Champions League final against Real Madrid. After a year in Qatar with Al-Duhail, he is now without a club, and testing himself in England might be an appealing prospect. Ezequiel Garay A former Real Madrid player and an Argentine international, Ezequiel Garay’s reputation precedes him. He made 23 appearances for Valencia last season, so the 34-year-old is hardly over the hill yet. Garay is a classy, experienced defender, and would improve several Premier League teams.

The worrying statistic that will concern Newcastle United fans after Manchester United defeat
Mario Balotelli An almost iconic figure in the Premier League, there are few fans that don’t know about Mario Balotelli. There are too many controversies and memorable moments to go into in any depth, though he often acted as both a hero and a villain while at Manchester City and Liverpool. He scored goals for Nice in Ligue 1 after leaving Anfield, before moving on to Marseille and then Brescia, where he was released after a return of five goals in 19 games. At 30, though, he could still make his presence felt in the Premier League
