Breaking News ! Police have issued a warning to Trafford Centre to shoppers to wear a face covering - or receive a fine. The Greater Manchester Police team in Stretford said they had officers in the shopping centre yesterday, and will be back again on Sunday. So far five tickets have been issued to people who did not have a covering and could not present valid exemption. The fine is now £200 for a first offence, reduced to £100 if paid within 14 days. The government has also warned that repeat offenders receiving fines on public transport or in an indoor setting will have their fines doubled at each offence.
. For example, receiving a second fine will amount to £400 and a third fine will be £800, up to a maximum value of £6,400. GMP Stretford tweeted: "5 tickets issued to people inside the Trafford Centre yesterday failing to wear a mask. "Most people complied with the new law and supported our presence. We will be there again today so please wear your mask and if exempt bring proof. Thanks"
