Breaking News ! "Why do I have to live here?" exclaims one exasperated young man as he passes the police tape laced across the street which he calls home. "It always seems like something bad is going on." On Tuesday night a dramatic, and 'violent' incident had unfolded. At around 10.20pm, police were called by concerned residents to an altercation on Cemetery Road South. Later that evening, a 15-year-old boy presented at hospital with a stab wound, believed to be connected to the earlier disturbance. Neighbours emerged from their homes this morning to find police still combing pavements, gutters and cars for clues. Their evening had been filled with the sounds of 'youths racing cars along their street', followed by the whirr of an emergency service helicopter circling overhead for 'hours'. What ensued was a 'gang fight' involving tens of 'masked men, armed with guns and knives' - which eventually led to a 'cry of pain' as someone was 'slashed'. One neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, said he saw a number of vehicles driving up and down Cemetery Road South a short time later. He said he then saw a number of males getting out of various cars before a fight ensued, though these details have not been confirmed by police. Police swept the road, looking under cars and in drains for evidence (Image: STEVE ALLEN) Armed police arrived 20 minutes after he phoned the police along with a helicopter, the resident said: "At 10.20pm, I heard tyres screeching, went to investigate and found a white, medium-sized vehicle speeding north up Cemetery Road South. "There were two to three men dressed in black inside. Six or so men dressed the same, including balaclavas, were in pursuit of the car while wielding machete sized blades, what looked like a gun and some other form of weapon. "The white car was speeding up and down the road attempting to hit the six guys on foot. A knife fight began once those in the white car either left the vehicle or were forced from the vehicle on Brookfield Drive. "Members of the gang of six were shouting 'shoot him, f***ing shoot him'. Officers combed the area for hours in the pouring rain, looking for clues (Image: STEVE ALLEN) "At one point it seemed as though one may have been stabbed or slashed due to the sound of his cry, a sound of shock and fear. "This went on for up to 15 minutes, as a blue Mercedes containing four males arrived out of nowhere, parking on Thorpe Street and attempting to fight the gang of six, whilst also welding blunt weapons. "This group of four were then pushed back by the six as they were outnumbered and didn't have the weapons to come close to winning.

She added: “The cars driven by the youths bumped and scraped some of the residents cars parked up on the road. The street is typically 'quiet', according to one resident (Image: STEVE ALLEN) One young man expressed a frustrated acceptance, saying he feels 'there is always something bad going on' in Cemetery Road - this incident comes just weeks after a distressing siege just around the corner in Westminster Street. In November, police were negotiating for seven hours with a man inside a home amid 'concerns for the welfare of a man'. But the horror of a teenager being stabbed has still hit some residents - and the quick succession of serious incidents has taken its toll in this neighbourhood. One mum-of-three has been left frightened for her children, she says. "Armed police arrived with huge guns." She added that the street is 'usually quiet', saying: “It didn’t go on for long, but it’s really worrying when you hear things like that. This is usually a quiet place to live. "But lately, there's been a few things like this. At the end of last year, there was the big siege, though we were told that was isolated." Officers and Tactical Aid Units have remained at the scene throughout today, Wednesday January 13, carrying out enquiries. Detective Inspector Thomas Willis, of GMP's Salford CID, said: "This is a very concerning incident which has left a young boy needing hospital treatment for a stab wound. "This will have undoubtedly caused some concern in the community, but I would like to reassure members of the public that we are treating this as an isolated incident and we have a dedicated team of officers working to determine the exact circumstances of what happened. "The investigation is in its early stages and our main priority is to identify those involved, so I would appeal to anyone with information to get in touch with police as soon as possible."
