Breaking News ! Matt Hancock has outlined when people may be able to hug their friends and family. The Health Secretary explained to BBC Breakfast viewers on Tuesday morning that a relaxation on social distancing rules could come once the most vulnerable have had two jabs of the coronavirus vaccine. This is expected from mid-May, Mr Hancock said. It comes one day after Boris Johnson announced his four-step plan to get England out of lockdown by June 17. BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt asked: "Looking through the detail, the suggestion is that hugging should be as soon as possible, no later than May 17, is that right?” “Yes, that’s right," Mr Hancock replied. "That’s the same date in which you will be able to travel and stay overnight. That’s in Step 3." The Health Sec continued: "We know that close contact is how this disease is passed on, and so the reason for that timing is, by then, all of the most vulnerable groups will have been able to have two jabs. "We know from the data that was published yesterday that the first jab is very effective in helping to protect you against catching Covid or hospitalisation or of course dying from it. "But the second jab, adds to that protection.

." The roadmap published by the government states they will update advice on social distancing as 'as soon as possible, and no later than Step 3'. "The Government will continually review the evidence of vaccine efficacy, including its impact on transmission," it says. "As soon as possible, and no later than Step 3, the Government will update its advice on social distancing between friends and family, including hugging. "Until then, people should continue to keep their distance from anyone not in their household or support bubble, and keep up habits such as regular hand washing and letting in fresh air." (Image: PA) Step 3, from May 17, could see the rule of six outdoors lifted, however gatherings of more than 30 people in a park, garden or other outdoor space will still be against the law. Indoor mixing is expected to be allowed again at this point with the rule of six or a larger group from a maximum of two households allowed. This will be kept under review to determine whether it is safe to go further with the relaxation. People will also be allowed inside pubs and restaurants again as well as the reopening of entertainment venues such as cinemas, children’s play areas and accommodation (hotels and B&Bs), with indoor adult sports groups and exercise classes allowed again. If meeting friends or family outside of your household inside a pub or restaurant, the rule of six or two households limit applies.
