Breaking News ! Doctors and nurses are at “breaking point” and feeling “exhausted” amid the coronavirus pandemic, a doctor has said. Dr Caroline Walker, an NHS psychiatrist, has been counselling intensive care unit (ICU) workers. Asked on BBC Breakfast what ICU staff were currently telling her, she said: “I’ve spoken to several doctors and nurses working in ICUs across the country over the last week and they are really struggling. “They’re really at breaking point, or exhausted, or overwhelmed, they’re demoralised and there’s a real sense of dread actually, as we know that the peak of the second wave is still yet to hit.” She urged staff to seek help through well being hubs being set up and support lines for front line workers. Meanwhile, a senior nurse said that stress levels among nurses during the pandemic are "awful". Dame Donna said nurses were “not only having to comfort relatives, look after sick patients” but also “carry the stress of not having enough staff to look after those patients”.

. She added: “When I talk to the nurses, they are feeling awful – not just from the stress that they have in caring, but also we’re seeing colleagues die or become ill…. “So there’s a number of stressors on these individuals. But of course what the NHS staff are used to doing is pulling together and supporting their patients and the long-term effects will be later down the road. When asked if it is the worst she has known it to be, she added: “Yes, it is the worst for staff, for services, our sector. “Please, please, please follow the guidance, stay at home, act as though you have Covid, stay at home and look after your yourself and your family, because that’s what we need you to do right now.” On the vaccination programme, she added that the NHS is “working on the amount of supply that we have” adding that officials were working to ensure parity of the roll out across the country.
